TANZANIA in less than a week?!?

Wow its crazy to think that this Saturday, I will be boarding a plane in JFK and heading on the long journey to Tanzania, Africa for seven weeks this summer.. I am not sure why but this does seem the farthest of my journeys lately (even though I did just return in January from living in Hong Kong, China for a semester) I think it seems so far away because everyone puts "Africa" on a whole other level of unknown. I have been trying to do my research in the weeks leading up and I am not sure how much internet excess I will have there but I will try to journal and write everything up when I get back.

Just a few stats for those who don't know (I didn't until I started googling!).... Tanzania is located on the eastern side of Africa bordering Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique to name a few! There official languages are Swahili and English, and the capital is Dar es Salaam.

I will be living in a town called Arusha in the Northern region close to Mount Kilimanjaro (highest peak in Africa) as well as many National Parks more commonly known as the Serengeti! As a part of my program, we will be doing a safari trip on the Serengeti as well as climbing Mount Meru, which is closer and an easier hike!

I think the most shocking thing for me will be the dress.. I am not allowed to wear jeans for seven weeks!!! (I actually am packing one pair.. could resist and you never know!) I have 2 long skirts and a long dress, then i will probably have a bunch made over there. In all of my pre-departure emails they say to pack light! Ha, you would think I'd learn what to pack but that skill never seems to come. I will probably bring entirely too much and have to leave it all there!!

Alright well thats all for now! I will try to update when I arrive but have no idea when I will be getting to internet.. so wish me luck and safe travels to all!

Its been a while...

So last time I was on this blog I was writing about my Vietnam trip in November...and now it is the end of April.. wow how time flies! I didn't finish writing about my experience in Hong Kong because I had a little run in with some bad food poisoning. I learned that I should NEVER eat street food!! But after some dramatic ending two weeks in Hong Kong, finally I am fine and back in the US. You would think I would be finished traveling for a while because of that experience but not at all!
I am currently planning my next trip which is to Tanzania, Africa!! I am going this summer for seven week to do something similar as in Peru and to work in a hospital.. But I don't think it will be similar at all!
I am excited to see another continent and another whole world.. I don't have any idea what to expect but I will find out soon!
